Iridium OpenPort Maritime Airtime Plans: Data, Voice and Shared Data

Iridium OpenPort airtime runs the maritime terminal that pairs voice lines with IP data on one antenna, so a vessel can call and move data without switching services. Plans are grouped by what they cover: data alone, data with voice, voice alone, or a data pool shared across five or more SIMs. Pick the family that matches how the vessel communicates, then choose the allowance and speed.

Data-only plans

A fixed monthly data allowance at a chosen speed, on a 12-month term. The same allowance is offered at 32, 64 or 128 kbps, so a faster line moves the same megabytes quicker without changing what is included.

Who it suits: A vessel that needs email and reporting over the terminal but no crew voice line.

The network

Why Iridium OpenPort for a vessel

OpenPort runs on the Iridium network, the only satellite system with genuine pole to pole coverage, so a plan bought here keeps working at high latitudes where other maritime services lose signal. One terminal carries voice and data together, and speed can be matched to the plan rather than the hardware.

  • Coverage holds at high latitude, used on fishing and research vessels working far north and far south
  • Voice and data on the same maritime terminal
  • Speed is set by the plan, from 32 to 128 kbps, so the monthly cost can match how the vessel is used
  • A shared data plan lets several SIMs draw from one pool instead of buying separate lines

The fine print, plainly

Good to know before you activate

  • A one-time activation fee applies to every new line; it is shown on the plan page.
  • The 12-month term is billed monthly, and each plan states its own overage rate for data or voice used beyond the allowance.
  • Dynamic Shared Data plans require five or more SIMs sharing the same pool.
  • Data-only and shared-data plans are available at 32, 64 or 128 kbps; the speed is fixed per plan.
  • Voice and data on the same plan are billed and tracked separately.
  • Coverage is global on every OpenPort plan.
  • Ending a plan before its term is up carries the fee stated on the order; ask before cancelling if any allowance is still unused.

Pick data only if the vessel just needs email and reporting, voice only for crew calling with no data need, or a combined plan if both run over the same line. All three run at the same monthly billing and 12-month term.

Not sure which OpenPort plan fits the vessel?

Tell us how the vessel uses voice and data day to day. A two-minute call beats guessing, and we will say plainly if a smaller plan does the job.
