ICOM IC-SAT100 Accessories: Chargers, Docks, Headsets, Antennas
Batteries, chargers, the BC-247 vehicle dock, speaker mics and headsets for the IC-SAT100 satellite push to talk radio, plus the VE-PG4 gateway that ties it into your existing radio network.
What an IC-SAT100 owner needs first
The ICOM IC-SAT100 is a push to talk radio on the Iridium network, not a phone. One press reaches everyone in the talk group, anywhere in the world, with no repeater. It is rated IP67, tested to MIL-STD-810G, and ICOM rates the BP-300 battery for 14.5 hours of operation at a 5:5:90 transmit, receive and standby duty cycle. The radio ships with the BP-300 battery, the FA-S102U antenna, the BC-241 rapid charger, the BC-242 AC adapter and the MBB-5 belt clip.
So the first accessory is not a charger. It is a second BP-300, because a radio that is on all shift talks more than a phone does. After that, the BC-247 docking station if the radio rides in a vehicle, a speaker microphone so the radio can stay on the vest, and an external antenna if it is used inside a cab or a building.
Fleets and agencies should also look at the 6-gang charger and the VE-PG4 gateway, which are how a handful of IC-SAT100s become part of an existing dispatch network rather than a separate set of radios.
IC-SAT100 batteries and chargers
The BP-300 is a 7.2 V Li-ion pack. The BC-241 rapid charger came in the box; the 6-gang charger is for a shift room, and the CP-23L runs a rapid charger from a 12 V socket.
BC-247 docking station and vehicle kits
The BC-247 mounts the IC-SAT100 in a vehicle, vessel or building, powers it from AC or DC, and connects an external Iridium antenna. The radio, microphone and antenna are sold separately, which is what the two bundles solve.
Speaker microphones, headsets and earpieces
A radio on the vest with a mic on the collar is how crews use PTT. The IC-SAT100 uses ICOM's 14 pin connector, so some earpieces need the AD-135 adapter.
How to set up IC-SAT100 charging for one radio or a fleet
The pieces chain together depending on how many radios you run.
One radio, desk
The BC-241 rapid charger and BC-242 AC adapter that came with the radio. Buy a spare BC-241 if the radio lives between two locations.
One radio, vehicle
Add the CP-23L 12 V cigarette lighter cable to power the rapid charger from the vehicle, or go straight to the BC-247 docking station, which charges the radio and connects an external antenna at the same time.
Several radios, shift room
The IC-SAT100 6-gang charger, ICOM model BC-214N, charges up to six BP-300 batteries at once, with or without the radios attached, and ships with its BSC0157S AC adapter. For a vehicle or a trailer without AC, the OPC-656 DC power cable feeds a multi unit charger from a DC supply.
Battery care
The ICOM battery maintenance article in the help centre covers storage and cycling. A spare BP-300 per radio, rotated weekly, is the norm for crews on shift.
BC-247 dock alone vs Docking Bundle vs Accessories Bundle
Three ways to buy the same dock. The bundles add the parts most people order with it.
| BC-247 Docking Station | IC-SAT100 Docking Bundle | IC-SAT100 Accessories Bundle | |

Using the IC-SAT100 in a vehicle or a building
Like every Iridium device, the IC-SAT100 needs a clear view of the sky. Inside a cab or an office it will not hear the satellites. The BC-247 fixes that by holding the radio, powering it from the vehicle's 12 V supply through the 3 metre horn and ignition lead cable or from AC, and passing the signal in from an external antenna on the roof through the radio's SMA connector.
The magnet mount antenna with 1.5 metre cable is the standard in vehicle and in building antenna for the IC-SAT100 and is included in both bundles. For a permanent install with a longer run, the Iridium fixed and mast antennas on the Iridium accessories page connect through the antenna with adapter for the SAT100. The FA-S103U and the antenna replacement are spares for the radio's own whip.
The BC-247 ships with mounting hardware and a securing strap. The help centre has the BC-247 docking station instructions with the wiring diagram.
Choosing audio for the IC-SAT100
The HM-222 is the water resistant speaker microphone that most crews clip to a collar; it is the one in the Accessories Bundle. The VS-3 is a Bluetooth earbud style headset with its own PTT switch, VOX capability when the radio enables it, a 3.5 mm jack and a USB charged lithium polymer battery, for anyone who needs to move away from a docked radio. The HS-94 earpiece headset, the HS-95 boom mic headset and the throat microphone headsets cover helmets, hearing protection and high noise.
The SP-26, SP-27, SP-28, SP-29, SP-40 and EH15B are earphones only, for listening discreetly through a speaker mic or the radio. Check the plug: the SP-28 has a 2.5 mm plug and the SP-29 a 3.5 mm plug. The AD-135 adapter converts the IC-SAT100's 14 pin connector for earphones that do not plug into the speaker mic, and the VOX/PTT case pin connector is the fitting for hands free operation through a case.
VE-PG4 RoIP gateway: connecting the IC-SAT100 to your radio network
The VE-PG4 is ICOM's radio over IP gateway. It interconnects LTE PTT, wireless LAN radios, IDAS conventional and trunking, analog, P25, DMR and SIP telephony, and bridges audio between them automatically. It has a built in LTE module with a SIM slot, a simple SIP server that gives radios and IP phones extensions, and inputs for PA systems, sirens and warning lights. Several VE-PG4 units can be linked over a LAN or a 4G network to cover multiple sites.
For satellite PTT, the OPC-2412 connection cable ties an IC-SAT100 into the VE-PG4, so a dispatcher on a local IDAS or P25 system can talk to a crew on Iridium PTT a continent away. This is infrastructure rather than an accessory, and it is configured for each network. Call before ordering and we will scope it with you.
