Satellite communication moves fast, and most of what changes matters to someone standing in a field, on a deck or in a disaster zone rather than to an analyst. This section is where we keep track of it: new terminals and handsets, network changes such as Thuraya losing Australian coverage in April 2024, carrier outages that took cell service down for millions, and the hurricane, wildfire and typhoon seasons that send people looking for a phone that works when the towers do not.

Read it the way we write it. Every piece tells you what happened, what it means for the equipment you own or are thinking about, and what to do about it. Where a story is about a specific storm or season it stays dated on purpose, so you can see what was true at the time. Where the advice is evergreen we say so and link to the guide that goes deeper.

If you want the shopping side of any of this, the equipment lives at Buy, rentals at Rental and airtime at Service Plans.

News questions, answered

Why does a satellite phone store publish news?

Because most of our customers buy after something happened: a hurricane, an outage, a trip that went wrong. Knowing what changed, and what it means for the gear, is half of choosing well.

Are the older hurricane posts still useful?

The season-specific ones are history and are kept as such. The preparation advice in them still holds, and the current checklist is in How to Prepare for the Hurricane Season.

How do I know a fact here is still current?

We date anything that changes and say so in the copy. If you are about to buy on the strength of a coverage claim, check the network's own coverage map or call (800) 279-2366 and we will confirm it.
