Worldwide Coverage

The worldwide coverage provided by the Iridium satellite network allows these portable devices to go anywhere and maintain two-way text messaging with any cell phone number or email address, all while using GPS to track and share your expedition’s progress. You can make posts on social media.  You can also communicate inReach-to-inReach in the field.  If you find yourself in a risky situation, you can trigger an SOS to the 24/7 monitoring center, text back and forth about the state of the emergency and your condition, and receive a confirmation when help is on the way.

Tracking & Sharing Your Location

Enable the tracking feature on your inReach SE+ communicator to let loved ones follow your progress on their computer or mobile device, via the web-based MapShare portal.  The inReach will send your waypoints at preselected intervals of time so that followers can track your whereabouts in real-time.  You can invite your team back home to use MapShare to ping your inReach unit and see your GPS location.  They can also track your movements and exchange messages with you during your trip. Even better, you can embed your MapShare page on a blog, website, or social media.

Pairing Your Mobile Device

The free Earthmate app provides even more capability and convenience by syncing your inReach handheld via Bluetooth with your compatible Apple or Android device.  This allows you to access unlimited maps, aerial imagery, and U.S. NOAA charts.  Earthmate also allows you to easily access all of the inReach features through your paired mobile device.   For simpler texting, you can access your phone’s contact list through the Earthmate app to reach friends with fewer keystrokes.

Weather Forecast Service

InReach offers an optional weather forecast service to provide you with detailed updates directly to your inReach device, compatible smartphone, or tablet paired with the Earthmate app.  You will always know what conditions to expect on your journey.  Both basic and premium weather package subscriptions are offered.  You can always request weather forecasts for your current location or any other waypoint or destination on your itinerary.
