Product Description

The Hughes 9502 BGAN M2M External Antenna Terminal is designed to work over the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) for IP SCADA and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications making it a great fit for enabling environmental, pipeline, or compressor monitoring, SmartGrid, well site automation, or video surveillance.

The 9502 M2M terminal delivers affordable, global, end-to-end IP data connectivity, even to power-challenged regions that rely solely upon solar-battery arrays with sensitive power budgets.  In fact, one of the most impressive features of the 9502 it’s exceptionally low power consumption (1W idle).

The terminal comes with 32 feet of RF cabling, allowing the user to position the antenna away from the transceiver, which could remain in a secure location to better protect your property from unauthorized use or theft.

Features

  • Utilizes BGAN or M2M SIM cards
  • "Always-on" connectivity means no manual intervention is needed to recover from an outage
  • Auto-on/auto-context activation automatically restores power and PDP connection following loss of power or IP connection
  • Remote control with SMS—remote control of the terminal, including configuration, debugging, and access to Web interface
  • Ultra-low power consumption
    • -Transmit: < 20W
    • -Narrow beam w/o transmit: 3W
    • -Idle (regional beam): 1W
    • -Off (wake on packet): < 10mW (@ 12Vdc)
    • -Off (wake on packet): < 30mW (@ 24Vdc)
    • -Off (GPIO control): 0 W
  • Relay mode passes WAN IP address to the connected RTU
  • Supports Port Forwarding
  • Security enhancements with extended layers of embedded security options
  • Basic installation; no PC required
  • Outdoor unit (ODU) can be pole mounted
  • Indoor unit (IDU) is housed inside building or the remote terminal unit (RTU)
  • Built-in GPS receiver

 Interfaces

  • Ethernet connection (RJ45)
  • USB–Type B for connection to configuration PC
  • RS-232 (DB9) to external NMEA 0183-based GNSS device (e.g., GLONASS receiver)
  • TNC connection on the IDU to the external antenna

 Package Contents

  • Hughes 9502 BGAN M2M Terminal IDU
  • 10 meters RF antenna cable. Note: If cable length is changed, the cable loss needs to be 1.8 dB +/- 0.5 dB when measured at 1.6 GHz end-to-end which includes connectors
  • External antenna (ODU)

The Hughes M2M terminal is a 3G IP Based Satellite Modem with a Semi Directional antenna. The Hughes 9502 IP satellite terminal provides a reliable connection over the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) for IP and SCADA and machine to machine  (M2M applications.  It can be applied to use in many industry sectors through it’s communication with monitoring, surveillance, and automation devices.

The terminal can be used as an always-on data link, or it can be powered up from sleep mode when needed. The Antenna needs to be facing the satellite within a cone of 15 degrees of the skyscape, though it will operate even if it has been partially moved or blown off its axis. The service is resilient against signal loss due to cloud cover and rain due to the frequency that it utilises. Low cost hardware, a complete system including antenna, cables, and mounts is $1690 ex GST.

Ideal for metering, environmental monitoring, pipeline monitoring, pump monitoring, farm automation, and remote mine equipment.  The exceptional low power consumption (<1 W idle) makes it perfect for solar-powered sites that are far off-site.

The Hughes 9502 includes 10 meters of RF cabling and a separately mountable 38cm x 38cm panel antenna. Any firmware update should have no charge even when performing said upgrade in the field,  saving both time and money. Dealer pricing available.
