1. Make sure you are outside with an open view of the sky, away from any obstructions.
2. Fully extend the antenna and power on the phone. Make sure the antenna is straight up-and-down at all times.
3. After the phone registers, dial the country code (for the US it’s “1”), area code, and then the rest of the number.
4. Press the green button to place the call and then the red button to end the call.

4. Click send message (This option is FREE for the person sending and FREE for the person receiving the text).
NOTE: Using a cell phone directly to message the sat phone may incur high charges per minute or not work

Satmodo provided both a great service and experience. Both satellite phones arrived on time and with all accessories provided. These phones are great for remote use and are quite rugged for field use.
The service from Satmodo was outstanding. I would definitely rent from them again. As for the product and satellite service, I only received about 1/3 of the texts that were sent to me. This was in Wyoming with prolonged clear access to open sky and antenna up. So for that purpose, it wasn’t at all reliable.

Rented this phone for a ten day motorbike trip covering the Mid Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route. Since I did it solo and cell phone coverage was reported as almost non existent I thought a satellite phone for emergencies might be a good idea. Had decided on this trip on very short notice and an internet search led me to satmodo. A quick, pleasant and informative phone conversation with Mike sealed the deal. I had also talked to another company but they only offered half the prepaid minutes for essentially the same price.
Phone arrived as requested and required for my planned departure 2 days later via Fedex from CA. Nothing was missing (both batteries charged) and via the instructions I called Satmodo so they could talk me through the set up. Almost unnecessary since the included instruction sheet covered pretty much everything one would ever need to know. Very handy for my family to take pictures of to have available in case they needed to contact me.
Fortunately never needed to use the phone for an emergency but did use it several times to call home and check in since cell phone coverage was severely sparse. A few times I had to find access to some clear sky but it worked every time and the connection was usually excellent.
Upon return I put everything back into the FedEx box the phone came in, attached the included prepaid label and dropped it off. Couldn’t have been any easier. Next time I find myself in need of a satellite phone my first call will be to Satmodo.
