Worldwide Coverage

The worldwide coverage provided by the Iridium satellite network allows these portable devices to go anywhere and maintain two-way text messaging with any cell phone number or email address, all while using GPS to track and share your expedition’s progress. You can make posts on social media.  You can also communicate inReach-to-inReach in the field.  If you find yourself in a risky situation, you can trigger an SOS to the 24/7 monitoring center, text back and forth about the state of the emergency and your condition, and receive a confirmation when help is on the way.

Tracking & Sharing Your Location

Enable the tracking feature on your Garmin inReach Explorer+ communicator to let loved ones follow your progress on their computer or mobile device, via the web-based MapShare portal.  The inReach will send your waypoints at preselected intervals of time so that followers can track your whereabouts in real-time.  You can invite your team back home to use MapShare to ping your Garmin inReach unit and see your GPS location.  They can also track your movements and exchange messages with you during your trip. Even better, you can actually embed your MapShare page on a blog, website, or social media.

Pairing Your Mobile Device

The free Earthmate app provides even more capability and convenience by syncing your Garmin inReach handheld via Bluetooth with your compatible Apple or Android device.  This allows you to access unlimited maps, aerial imagery, and U.S. NOAA charts.  Earthmate also allows you to easily access all of the Garmin inReach features through your paired mobile device.   For simpler texting, you can access your phone’s contact list through the Earthmate app to reach friends with fewer keystrokes.

Weather Forecast Service

InReach offers an optional weather forecast service to provide you with detailed updates directly to your Garmin inReach device, compatible smartphone, or tablet paired with the Earthmate app.  You will always know what conditions to expect on your journey.  Both basic and premium weather package subscriptions are offered.  You can always request weather forecasts for your current location or any other waypoint or destination on your itinerary.

Which inReach Is Best for You?

Both the inReach SE+ and Explorer+ offer identical messaging capabilities. But on the GPS navigation side, their differences become clear.  The inReach SE+ uses GPS to provide basic grid navigation and allow you to drop waypoints, mark key locations, track your progress, and follow a breadcrumb trail back to base.  The inReach Explorer+, however, goes far beyond that, providing you with full-fledged GPS on-map guidance using preloaded TOPO mapping and waypoint routings viewable directly on the device.  Additionally, the built-in digital compass, barometric altimeter, and accelerometer included with Explorer+ help you get and maintain accurate bearings during your journey.

Affordable Airtime Plans

You will need an active subscription on the Iridium network to use your inReach device.  Depending on your usage level, you can opt for an annual contract package or flexible month-to-month airtime plan.

The tough, durable, impact resistant, and IPX7 water-rated inReach Explorer+ handheld is designed to keep you moving towards your goal — no matter what craziness crosses your path.  An internal, rechargeable lithium battery comes standard on the unit so you can count on long battery life in every mode of operation (up to 100 hours at 10-minute tracking mode; up to 75 hours at 10-minute tracking with 1-second logging; up to 30 days at the 30-minute interval power save mode; and up to 3 years when powered off).  Recharge via the standard micro-USB power cable or optional in-vehicle 12-V charger.

Q- How to use in reach explorer?

A- To pair your inReach with your mobile device, go to Settings>Bluetooth>Pair inReach from your inReach Explorer. Follow the instructions on the screen. On your iOS device: Go to Settings>Bluetooth and make sure it is turned on. Select the inReach Explorer from the Devices list

Q-How to use Delorme inreach se?
A-The DeLorme InReach SE has been discontinued. It can be used as a stand-alone device, and you really get what you pay for. Less expensive options were far less reliable.

A-The Garmin inReach is a two-way satellite communicator that works where cell phones don’t.But if you hike out of phone range as many of us do, this palm-sized device can save your life. The onboard GPS can send your position with every message, and you can also use it for some basic navigation functions
